Hydrogen-Fuel Cell 101

In 2023, the Texas Legislature created the Texas Hydrogen Production Policy Council (Council) to study and make recommendations relating to the policy framework of the Railroad Commission of Texas for hydrogen energy development in Texas. The Council was established in December 2023 pursuant to House Bill 2847 (88th Legislature, Regular Session), and its initial report details the Council’s analysis and preliminary recommendations.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) recently announced the selection of 31 entities to receive $3.2 million in voucher support to advance a range of clean hydrogen technologies. This announcement is part of larger rollout of $9.8 million presented to 111 small businesses and other organizations. DOE-funded vouchers will be used to obtain in-kind support from participating organizations.
